Freshman linebacker Shaquem Griffin, selected in the fifth round of the 2014 Seattle Seahawks draft, will start the season-opening 2018 National Football League season against Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Wednesday that Griffin will play the injured K.J. Wright.
Veteran who is entering his eighth season in the league and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2016, Wright underwent arthroscopy on Aug. 27 and should need two weeks to recover.
Griffin has been working as a Wright reserve since the Seattle team selected him with the 141st overall pick of the draft. He became the first player with only one hand to be selected in the draft in the modern era of the NFL. Watch Seattle Seahawks NFL live streaming free football match from here.
The Seahawks make the first game of the season away from home.
Shaquem Griffin started the Seahawks’ last preseason game, giving him an opportunity to work alongside middle linebacker Bobby Wagner and the rest of the Seahawks title defense, which also includes cornerback Shaquill Griffin, his twin brother.
