The return of Robert Griffin III to the National Football League will go from preseason. The Baltimore Ravens has decided to keep the quarterback in the 53-man squad, the Maryland franchise said.
The 28-year-old entered the camp to compete against first-round pick Lamar Jackson and longtime titleholder Joe Flacco. He signed an unusual contract for players in his position: a season and a base salary of $ 1 million, plus a small signing bonus.
Despite the unlikely and low investment, Griffin managed to perform well starting in the Hall of Fame game (seven passes completed in 11 attempts for 58 yards and one interception). He showed the composure of a veteran despite having spent 2017 without playing football. In four games, he completed 22 of 38 passes for 313 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Apparently the numbers are worth the stand-by.
With a heavy investment in Jackson and Flacco being the main quarterback, the Baltimore Ravens needed a choice. While some teams have two signal callers, others have three, the Maryland team has tended to the first option in recent years. Many understood that RGIII could be traded after it was withdrawn from the fifth and final preseason game, a decision that could be to keep it healthy and its price intact. However, at first, Griffin will be a Raven in week 1.
