Aaron Donald knows that after signing a record contract and becoming the highest paid defensive player in National Football League history, he needs to match on the pitch and expectations will be sky high. But it’s alright. Shirt 99 seems to be ready.
Talking to NFL Network journalist Steve Wyche hours after signing a $ 135 million six-year contract extension, Donald noted that he understands all the hype surrounding the Rams in 2018.
“(We are able to) many special things. But we still have to get out there and play. It’s a lot of hype now, but we still have to work and go week after week and play by game and just keep getting better. But with the players we have, the talent we have, many players making plays around us, the sky is the limit. If we put it all together, we can be special, “Donald said.
Now with the bureaucratic part settled, Donald and the Rams will work to live up to the status of one of the NFL’s strongest teams and one of the title contenders this season. Everybody can watch NFL live stream free game in here.
Last year, even after losing the first game of the season amidst his contractual dispute, Donald dominated as usual. He added 11 sacks, 41 combined tackles and five forced fumbles.
With just over a week before the Rams’ regular season opener against the Oakland Raiders on September 10, the defensive tackle is confident it will be ready.
“I’m in great shape. It’s more about taking rust out in terms of American football. Just working on your moves and being a little faster with that. I’m going to face it day by day and keep getting better and better and go from there. (…) But I think I’ll be ready, “Donald told Wyche.
Now paid as he wanted, as the most talented defender of the NFL, Donald is much more confident and comfortable for the season to come.
“It was definitely stressful for me,” Donald said, referring to the standoff in the talks. “It’s been a long road, but I’m happy and blessed that it’s over and I can play football again,” he said.
