The Carolina Panthers have left starting tackle Matt Kalil on injured reserve on Sunday (2), hoping the offensive lineman will be able to return to the team after eight games.
Kalil underwent knee arthroscopy two weeks ago in Florida after consulting with Dr. James Andrews.
Center Ryan Kalil initially said that his brother would be back “sooner or later”, but the knee did not respond completely to rehab.
Marty Hurney, general manager of the Panthers, said in a statement on Sunday that the decision to send the tackle to IR was taken “to give Kalil time to fully recover his knee.”
That means Taylor Moton, selected in the second round of the 2017 draft, will start the left tackle role during the regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Moton was competing for the vacant left-guard incumbent before being transferred to the right tackle position to replace the injured Daryl Williams.
Williams, who suffered a ruptured medial collateral ligament and dislocated his patella at the start of the training camp, returned to training on Sunday and participated in activities during the open part of the press. Left guard Amini Silatolu has also returned to training for the first time since suffering a torn meniscus. Watch your favorite Carolina Panthers live stream free football match in here.
Coach Ron Rivera chose not to speculate on the availability of both players for his debut against the Cowboys, saying only that their return was a good sign.
Silatolu took a more optimistic tone, saying, “Daryl and I are fine.”
Matt Kalil has signed a five-year contract, $ 55.5 million, as a free agent in 2017 after leaving the Minnesota Vikings.
He struggled last season but was encouraged by the good offseason he had and also due to the return of the new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, with whom he had previously worked in the Vikings.
The Carolina Panthers acquired tackle Corey Robinson in exchange with the Detroit Lions last Saturday to get one more option for the line amid so many injuries in the industry. How to watch NFL live stream free easily from here.

– Although he has no exact predictions about when the center will be able to play again, the Dallas Cowboys will keep Travis Frederick in the active cast of 53 players at this point. The information was collected by journalist Todd Archer of the US ESPN on Sunday.
On August 22, Frederick was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system. He spent a few days in the hospital receiving treatment, but has returned to limited training and attending Cowboys meetings.
Joe Looney will replace Frederick as center while the teammate is away. As he will not make his debut against the Carolina Panthers, Frederick will miss the first game of his professional career in the NFL.

The Colorado franchise can activate Cravens from injured reserve after eight weeks if he can recover from the injury in time.
The safety lost all season 2017 of the NFL, while still in the Washington Redskins, after seriously considering leaving once and for all the professional American football.
– The Los Angeles Chargers have chosen to put tight end Hunter Henry, who suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament knee in May, on the list of players not physically fit to play (PUP list) instead of placing him on the injured reserve. That means Henry has a chance to come back later this season.
In the PUP list, Hunter can not play or train in the first six weeks of the season. After the sixth week, Henry becomes eligible to return to training, and then a three-week window is opened for the Chargers to decide whether to activate it or deactivate it for the rest of the season.
The ruptures in the anterior cruciate ligament are generally considered injuries that end the season. Despite this, the Chargers look hopeful about the athlete’s return.
It is worth remembering that the Chargers have closed a one-year deal with seasoned tight end Antonio Gates and the idol is back in the Californian organization.
– Defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis, selected in the second round of the 2018 draft, was placed on the injured reserve by the Indianapolis Colts due to a toe injury. The decision was announced by the Indiana organization.
– Safety Daniel Sorensen of the Kansas City Chiefs was placed on the injured reserve because of a knee problem. The decision leaves him with a safe chance to return in the second half of the season if he can stay healthy.
